I'm registered to ride in the first-ever ALS Canada Revolution Ride!
As a past caregiver from 1998-2004 for my late husband and as a volunteer with the ALS Society for over 9 years I know how important raising awareness and funds for research and a cure for this devastating disease.
it has been 16 years since my caregiver role ended but I am reminded of the courage, strength, determination and dignity of so many I had the privilege to meet. I will never take my mobility for granted and if I can ride 40 km to raise awareness for ALS I will have the memory of so many with me at every km.
I also self published a workbook for caregivers this past year to help support caregivers to understand the importance of self care. It is called Creative Healing Through Transformation-Conversations with my Soul. It is my way to continue to be of service to others.
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (also known as ALS, Lou Gehrig's disease, or motor neuron disease) is a disease that gradually paralyzes a person as their brain is no longer able to communicate with muscles that they are typically able to move at will. As the muscles of the body break down, someone living with ALS will lose the ability to walk, talk, eat, swallow, and eventually breathe.
I want to contribute to a future without ALS, which is why I'm gearing up for the Revolution Ride on September 26, 2021 in Dundas, Ontario. I hope I can count on you for support.
