It started because my cousin dropped his hockey stick. I then learned what it meant to have a family member given a terminal diagnosis at the age of 45. I saw Doug's transitions over the next 5 years as ALS gradually took away his ability to move his hands, his legs and then his voice. I watched how this active man gradually lost his physical abilities and eventually his life.
I knew I needed to do something to change the reality.
Why ALS Canada? We make a difference for people who are affected by ALS today. Empowering people with information to understand and make decisions. Providing direct community support and equipment to ease the burden of ALS for today.
We are making progress. Since Doug was diagnosed, we now have three therapies in Canada. Research is advancing and helping us to better understand the disease and to target treatments.
There is still much to do and you can help. Your contribution is funding our work today and investing in a future without ALS.
